“Early to bed and early to rise, Makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise” – Benjamin Franklin

I’m not a morning person. I love sleep just too much. Despite this, for years I’ve tried to wake up early on a regular basis, one failed attempt after another. I’ve tried all sorts of methods; going to bed earlier, setting multiple alarms, laying out clothes. My favorite attempt is to sleep with my cell phone, alarm set to 5 am, under my pillow, only to wake at 7 am, finding that once again my plans had been foiled.

Do I gain any benefit from my 9+ hours of sleep? Do I feel fresher than if I only get 7 hours? If I sleep two hours extra per night for a year I lose almost a month worth of time (728 hours).

“Procrastination is the thief of time” – Joseph Heller

I feel more productive in the morning. 590,000,000 Google results suggest it’s not just me, even though recent studies have found the contrary. But still my chronic procrastination has even made its way into my sleeping patterns.

So I, once again, plan on waking up early, but with a new plan. I WILL wake up at 5 am everyday and make it a habit. They say 30-days makes a habit, so I plan to do this for 30-days and see if it catches on. I will document my progress on this blog (as well as write about other things).

Of course, I will start next week. Why not procrastinate just a little bit longer?
