A 1000 L elevated tank was not a possibility in my yard due to yard slope and resources. For my garden setting it also would look out of place. At my next home I plan to install a grey water system during construction of the home for irrigation, collecting washwater from the house and rainwater from the roof. This installation would require some design and a pump; the barrel was used for both aesthetic reasons and ease of installation.

Nice post, and I'm glad to see you are capturing rain. I didn't know it was illegal in Colorado - I wonder why, when it makes such good sense for conservation? We're currently researching options and we plan to install as many barrels as I can get Garden Man to agree to!

Randy - our barrel came with the rain water diverter. We will be doing something a bit different with our next setup for the vegetable garden since the barrels don't have the hardware yet.

Emily - I'll tell my site designer (my husband) that you liked the mods. Thanks!
